SERVICE MANAGER

We’re a small, family-owned business with over 30 years of experience in overhead cranes and hoists. Run by a husband-and-wife team, our tight-knit crew delivers top-notch lifting solutions with a focus on quality and safety. We’re not a big corporation, just a dedicated team passionate about our trade, and we’re looking to grow by adding at least three more team members.
JOB OVERVIEW
We need a Service Manager to help us build our team and keep things running smoothly. This isn’t a cushy office job, you’ll work hands-on with us in our small, no-frills shop, recruiting new talent, managing our small team, and supporting our service department with scheduling and ordering parts. Our service department handles annual crane inspections and urgent repair work when a customer’s crane breaks down.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Recruit and hire at least three new team members, such as crane technicians and support staff.
- Post job ads on platforms like Indeed, Craigslist, or local job boards and screen applicants.
- Interview candidates and select those who fit our hardworking, family-like culture.
- Support team morale and address basic HR needs for our small crew.
- Assist with scheduling service work, including annual crane inspections and emergency repairs for customer breakdowns.
- Order parts for service jobs, ensuring our technicians have what they need to keep cranes running.
- Work with us to understand staffing and operational needs.
- Handle reference checks and assist with onboarding new hires.
- Ensure hiring and workplace practices comply with labor laws.
- Pitch in with other tasks as needed, we’re a small business
- 1-2 years of hiring or recruitment experience (or a strong desire to learn).
- Comfortable in a small, hands-on, non-corporate work environment.
- Familiarity with the crane, hoist, or industrial sectors is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills to manage hiring, scheduling, and parts ordering.
- Good communication and people skills to connect with employees and candidates.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting with shifting priorities.
- Basic knowledge of job posting platforms and tools (nothing complex required).
- The understanding of safety standards in our industry is a bonus.
- Maintain and build positive relationships with vendors and customers
